Today, we dropped our first YouTube video for OpenCase in a while, but rest assured, it was worth the wait! In it, we dive into the most common question we get: “Will my favorite third-party MagSafe accessory fit inside the OpenCase opening?” And to answer it, we test eighteen of the most popular products and their compatibility with our unique phone case design. Whether it's Apple, MOFT, PopSocket, Ridge, Spigen, or even our own accessories, we’ve provide our honest feedback and allow you to preview how it might workout. In this post, we'll summarize the content of the video and provide links the exact point in the video to start watching. If you're interested in the products, links for them can be found in the description of the YouTube video.
What is OpenCase?
The OpenCase MagSafe Case is our patent-pending iPhone case for MagSafe accessories. Our innovative design holds MagSafe/Qi2 accessories more securely by nesting them inside the case, rather than letting them sit on top. This simple adjustment significantly reduces the chances of them sliding around or falling off. It also makes the case + accessory a thinner profile, because we've removed the redundant material. And if that wasn't enough, the case ends up being ~40% lighter than if the material was there. We like to think of OpenCase's main advantages over other MagSafe cases on the market as easily summed up in 5 words: more secure, thinner and lighter.
Additionally, OpenCase was designed to be a mostly flexible MagSafe system. All the OpenCase MagSafe accessories work with any bare iPhone 12-16 and most third party MagSafe cases; however, only third party MagSafe accessories that fit in the "open" space are compatible, like the Apple wallet and more. This provides an opportunity for the customer to use their OpenCase with a large variety of third party accessories.
Which MagSafe Accessories Fit OpenCase?
While the video does a wonderful job of capturing how the fit looks and feels, we're going to give you a brief summary here. We tested eighteen MagSafe accessories from Apple, Moft, PopSocket, Ridge, Spigen, and OpenCase (we had to show you how ours worked too!). Below is a summary of how each performed in compatibility, any observations, and links to the specific section in the video.
Apple
✅Apple MagSafe Wallet (02:43 in video) – We based the size of the opening for the OpenCase on the Apple MagSafe Wallet, so it comes as no surprise, it fits perfectly.
✅Apple MagSafe Battery Pack (03:17 in video) – Despite Apple no longer selling this product, it's still a favorite of many people, including me. It also fits perfectly, reduces bulk and gives you the power boost you need on those longer trips.
Moft
✅MOFT Snap-on Phone Stand and Wallet (04:03 in video) – A little tight, but with a gentle push, it fits and stays secure. It's the accessory we get asked about the most, and the snug fit really benefits from OpenCase’s design.
✅ MOFT Snap Phone Tripod Stand (05:05 in video) – Fits wonderfully in OpenCase with no issues. With the hinge fully extended, It lifts slightly out of the case, but with it folded down, it fits
❌ MOFT Snap Flow (06:20 in video) – Unfortunately, this accessory is too long for OpenCase, and does not fit. A great product, but it's just not compatible with an OpenCase on your iPhone.
PopSocket
✅ PopGrip for MagSafe (round) (08:00 in video) – It fits, but it doesn't take full advantage of the case’s secure sides. The magnets are strong, and it does make contact at the top (the most important contact spot). Because it sits inside the case, the phone's profile is thinner, and it weighs less.
✅ PopGrip for MagSafe (Oval [aka: “pill”]) (08:45 in video) – It fits, but like the round one above, it falls a bit short on contacting all the sides. It’s also hard to find on PopSockets website, so I'm not sure if they sell it anymore.
✅ PopWallet+ for MagSafe (09:29 in video) – It fits, but still doesn’t make full contact on all sides. The magnets hold it, but it could be more secure. However, the wallet is nice:
✅ Softgoods PopWallet+ for MagSafe (10:17 in video) – This one is a showstopper with fit! Makes contact on all sides.
❌ PopSocket MagSafe PowerPak (11:02 in video) – This battery pack is just too large for the opening making it completely incompatible with OpenCase. The bottom edges are also rounded, so it makes it lift to easily as well really making for a poor fit.
Ridge
❌ Ridge MagSafe Wallet (12:02 in video) – While it technically fits in our opening, it's designed to be used in conjunction with an adapter plate that you permanently affix to your bare iPhone or MagSafe case. We tried it without the plate, and obviously, its raised magnets and hard plastic contact points made it slide around with abandon, thus we cannot recommend it, even though it technically “fits". If you're committed to using it, you’d have to rely on the adapter plate, but again, that requires putting a permanent adhesive attachment on your iPhone, which defeats the purpose of using the MagSafe built into it. Nevertheless, it's very beautiful and sturdy wallet; just sadly not made to be used with OpenCase.
Spigen
✅ Valentinus | 3 Card (MagFit) (14:33 in video) – Fits perfectly, matching the size of the Apple wallet. It stays firmly in place without any movement.
✅ Ultra Hybrid Zero One (15:06 in video) – Another perfect fit. It locks into place and stays securely attached, offering a sleek and functional design.
OpenCase
✅ MagWallet (15:48 in video) – Designed to be the exact size of Apple’s wallet, ensuring a seamless fit.
✅ PopHolder (16:02 in video) – A pop-out grip with a super strong magnet that locks into place on all four sides:
✅ FillerPlate (16:15 in video) – A blank plate for when you want full coverage but no accessories. You can learn more about how it fits into our MagSafe system here.
✅ StandByStand (16:34 in video) – A magnetic puck that rotates to hold your phone horizontally or vertically. Works awesome as a nightstand.
✅ CarMountCharger (16:51 in video) – For hands-free use in your car, it securely attaches and rotates without slipping.
Conclusion
While not every third party accessory worked with OpenCase, the majority did! It was always our goal to provide our customers with a better MagSafe experience, and part of that is making sure customers, like you, can choose which accessories to use with the case. Plus, we believe that you should be able to use your MagSafe accessories with your next iPhone, especially if they're still in good shape. When you upgrade your case with your phone, you should be able to use your old accessories and discover some new ones from other brands. It's all part of the fun!
