Is There An Android MagSafe Solution?
Share
MagSafe, Apple's proprietary wireless charging and accessory system, has become a popular feature for iPhone users. It has opened up a world of convenience, ease of use, and a versatile array of attachable phone accessories. Every now and then, we get a message or comment asking us, "When will Android have MagSafe?" In this post, we'll explore what Android users can do right now to bring a "MagSafe" experience to their phone, and what the future holds.
How to Create a "MagSafe" Android Experience
Currently, most Android phones do not come with magnets built into them. That said, Android users have some solutions available that can create a "MagSafe" phone experience.
Metal Rings
Some folks have chosen to add a metal ring to the back of their Android. This creates a surface for magnets to stick to. However, it seems like this strategy is not seamless for all Androids, so do a bit of research before investing or applying it to your phone.
Magsafe Compatible Cases For Android
Other Android users prefer purchasing a third party case that has a metal ring, or actual magnets, built directly into the case. Some brands making "MagSafe" cases for Android include Torras, ESR and more.
Qi2: The Future for Android
While it currently takes a metal ring sticker or a third party case to make an Android MagSafe-ready, that's all about to change. The upcoming Qi2 charging standard will incorporate magnetic alignment, similar to MagSafe. Android users are about to know the joys of built-in magnets, perfect charging alignment, and the convenience of mix and match phone accessories, like a MagWallet.
Currently, almost none of the Android phone makers have phones with Qi2 built in, but the biggest players, like Google and Samsung, are expected to add it in 2025. Popular and respected technology Youtuber, Marques Brownlee recently did a video about the release of Google's Pixel 9 phones. In it, he specifically said “Maybe Qi2 is the only thing missing.” This is how much of an expectation it has become for 2025. And honestly, we can't wait to see it!
To Sum Up
While Android users don't currently have built-in MagSafe, they can bring a magnetic experience to their phone with a little ingenuity. In 2025, Qi2 is expected to provide Android users with a more native experience similar to MagSafe.
